Seed Swaps #2 welcomes Jessamyn Fiore, curator, writer and co-director of The Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark. In this session, Jessamyn will speak about Gordon Matta-Clark’s legacy – with a focus on his FOOD project – and how it connects to the new FOOD Commissions being developed through Place Lab Peterlee, as well as his wider socially-engaged practice. We’ll explore how creativity rooted in food, space and community can act as a force for social change.

What Are Seed Swaps?
Seed Swaps are spaces to share ideas, nurture growth and develop your creative practice. They are about exchanging stories, celebrating unexpected outcomes and reflecting on how creativity can truly impact lives and communities.
Each Seed Swap focuses on social change – exploring projects that have created an impact, and looking more broadly at how artists work in response to the world around them.
Following the joyful, access-centred first session with Lady Kitt, this next gathering with Jessamyn invites us to reflect on Matta-Clark’s FOOD restaurant as a model for artist-led, community-rooted practice – and what it means to make work that is shared, consumed and created collectively. As the FOOD Commissions are live, we’ll think about how artists today can engage with Matta-Clark’s ideas and why they still matter within a socially-engaged context.
These sessions are for artists living, working in or from County Durham, though we’d never turn away anyone eager to learn more.

Join a conversation about how artists can build space for connection and change through everyday acts – like cooking, gathering and feeding.
