ANNFIELD IN BLOOM🌻

Artists Sally Southern and Nicola Lynch worked with hundreds of people across the village of Annfield Plain to explore their stories, pride of place and how the high street can be viewed differently through workshops, make and take events and pop-up bus stop takeovers. The themes of growing and blooming together, celebrating on key days including Blue Monday, considered the saddest day of the year, using light and the colour blue in positive ways to illuminate the high street.

Sally and Nicola worked across the village of Annfield Plain with groups ranging from the local Community Centre to the Scouts, from the WI to the local allotment, allowing hundreds of people from the village to explore what their place meant to them and engage with workshops that ranged from planting, wreath making, silent discos, pumpkin carving, flower arranging and more.

The social events and the unusual locations allowed for conversation with a wide range of people and the project culminated in an entry to the In Bloom competition supported by the Community Centre and the creation of a flowery flock, celebrating the sheep herding heritage of Annfield Plain by a range of groups across Annfield Plain.
