Digital Residency unveiling event — Bishop Auckland Football Club heritage

  • Bishop Auckland Town Hall Market Place Bishop Auckland, England, DL14 7NP United Kingdom (map)

Join us for the unveiling event of Alastair Flindall’s augmented reality mural celebrating the amazing heritage of Bishop Auckland Football Club.

NO MORE NOWT Digital Residency artist, Alistair Flindall, has worked with the Football communities, local historians and stories of solidarity (and spectacle) from Bishop Auckland Football Club's amazing heritage.

Alistair has used the stories and discoveries he's learned about to produce new artwork spanning accessible digital AR and traditional analogue murals to bring to life the stories from the town, exploring findings through collage, illustration, painting and augmented reality to navigate the past and present contexts that might inform the future of the town's people, sport and stories through accessible new mixed media.

Along his journey, Alistair has been in the NO MORE NOWT Diary Room (AKA on a phone in his studio), recording some quick vlogs on his process, thinking and progress on how things are developing. More are coming - Here's a teaser!

"Where County Durham has a huge history of industrial heritage there is a correlation with a sense of community built around sports and traditional pastimes that brought men together to compete, attend and support their fellow neighbour.

"Within a 20-mile radius of Bishop Auckland was once the heartland of amateur Football. The Bishops (Bishop Auckland FC) were the most successful amateur club in English Football History, winning the Amateur FA Cup 10 times, mostly beating their neighbours such as Crooke Town and Willington! Cup finals would draw crowds of up to 100,000 standing at Wembley".
