CRAFTIVIST: (SWEET) SANDWICH MAKING!

  • NO MORE NOWT Yoden Road Peterlee, England, SR8 5DP United Kingdom (map)

Join craft artist and sandwich enthusiast Lady Kitt for this fun, creative session as part of the Craftivist Recipe Archive exhibition at Durham Castle. We’ll arrive as a group at 10.30am to see the Craftivist Recipe Archive exhibition - reimagined in it’s new exhibition space in Durham Castle. Following on from this, we will catch up & take part in a collaborative sandwich making workshop.

What is the Craftivist Recipe Archive?!

Throughout March 2023, artists Lady Kitt and Sarah Li worked with people to share and create recipes. Not for food, but for things we would like more of in the world, and things we would like to be different in our own lives and wider communities. These have included recipes for kindness, sleep, mental health and friendship. Alongside this, the collective group looked at artworks from the Durham University Art Collection about food and activism; taking inspiration from artists who’ve made art to change the world! Since then, the CRA has been on the road, collecting recipes around the country… Come and add your recipe for change to the ever growing archive!

What will this workshop be?

You’ll work in pairs to make one another the ‘perfect’ sweet sandwich whilst chatting about what perfect actually means to you and sharing stories of things which are important to you and your community.

Available ingredients will include: cupcakes, croissants, scones, fresh fruit, cream, jam and a whole lot of  hundreds and thousands. Preparing food for someone can be a great way to find out more about them and share things about yourself. During the session everyone will be encouraged to chat about:

  • What it feels like to prepare food and have food made for us

  • Who usually make food in our own families, households or communities

  • Who helps with the tidying up and what might be the most fair ways to organize this (thinking about making meals and making other stuff like art, gardens, community centers and even communities themselves)

Everyone who comes to the session will be working in pairs, but you don’t need to come with someone you already know or only attend with an even number of people! Whatever happens, and whoever attends, everyone will have someone to work with.

Email: eilis@nomorenowt.org to book a FREE place, and let us know if you need transport to get to Durham.

When you book up please mention any dietary requirement and preferences and we’ll make sure there are some ingredients that everyone likes!

Many thanks to the team at Durham University Arts for all their support
