WELCOME TO THE GOING BACK BROCKENS DIGITAL ARCHIVE
This archive was started during the development of Going Back Brockens - an ambitious project that saw award-winning painter Narbi Price create 40 new paintings to mark the 40th anniversary of the miners' strike. Narbi collaborated with acclaimed writer Mark Hudson, whose work included a soundscape of voices - interviews gathered from the Durham coalfield in 1992-92.

EXPLORE THE AUDIO ARCHIVE - VOICES FROM HORDEN
Recorded in Horden, County Durham, in 1991 and 1992, these conversations capture the voices of people living through the aftermath of the Miners’ Strike and the closure of Horden Colliery.
Author Mark Hudson made the recordings while researching his 1994 book Coming Back Brockens: A Year in a Mining Village. They preserve first-hand memories, experiences and observations from a community undergoing profound economic and social change.
More than thirty years later, the recordings became part of Going Back Brockens: Monuments and Rhetoric After the Miners’ Strike, produced by Building Culture CIC and commissioned by No More Nowt.
