UNTOLD STORIES

Untold Stories is an ongoing commissioning strand aimed at collaborating with audiences and sections of our communities who feel their stories and voices are underrepresented or unheard.

UNTOLD STORIES: ‘FROM THE CAMPFIRE TO THE HEARTH’

Centred around the deeply human act of gathering around a campfire with food to share stories, artists from the The Auxiliary drew out untold stories from East Durham residents (co-creators) through gathering, listening, walking, music, drawing, making ceramics and open & safe space building.

UNTOLD STORIES: ‘ON AND OFF’

Listen now: Jayne Dent (Me Lost Me) - a recorded live performance of a sonic collage of electronic instruments, Dent’s voice and recorded oral history from ex-miner Steven Maitland from Shotton Colliery. An irresistible soundscape exploring the disorientating cycles of shift work in coal mining.

UNTOLD STORIES: ‘FANDOM’

Working with men’s crees and community groups across East Durham towns and villages since 2022, The Six Twenty Theatre company have co-created a project celebrating their hobbies, interests and fandoms - bowling, music collecting, building Meccano, pigeon fancying, beekeeping, and wrestling are big passions authentically retold.
